Two bat sanctuaries? Soon, the whole farm will be given to various animals. I think Fluttershy's driving down the property value of Sweet Apple Acres and the price of apples up. What else does she have in the works?
The saddest part about it is this is how most of us actually WANTED the episode to end, but what we got was a war between Applejack's and Fluttershy's ideas that was extremely close to costing them their friendship. But that doesn't mean the episode wasn't good.
Applejack is stubborn. When she has an idea she has an inability to listen to others. Besides, I thought the musical number was cool. She has heard nothing but horror stories about the bats and didn't want to take the chance of putting the sanctuary in. I think your reaction to this episode is entirely nocebo and if faust was involved in the production of it, you would have an entirely different reaction regardless of how it turned out.
but didn't Fluttershy try to talk to the bats and they wouldn't listen, and when she asked for more time to reason with them, AJ said that she couldn't afford wasting time and decided to run them out? At least that's how i remember it...
If you didn't care for the first movie, then, yeah, you're probably not gonna like the second. EG2 was, I think, kinda weak.
The first was kinda cute, a few design flaws here and there, but - ultimately - cute. A song or two was questionable, the character concept designs were a little odd (particularly the whole boots and skirts thing.), but good build-up, climax and ending.
The second, we get a peak of Princess TwilightSparkle's new castle(a very small peak), Sunset Shimmer is converted to a good guy who realizes she was evil and is trying to repent - though most of the school still rejects her; there's a few funny parts where the girls - all seven of them - have a sleep over at Pinkie's house, but that's about it. In fact, one part that kinda killed it for me was the ending. I won't give it away incase you're ever curious, but I will say that - to me - it felt like a moment where the writers said, "It's time to end it." and just threw in something that was basically the equivalent of slamming on the breaks.
One plus to it, Twilight now has access to Earth when ever she wants it - I predict crossovers in future episodes. Can't wait, by the way.
One last thing, now that Sunset Shimmer is good, I think she's kinda cute. For a cartoon character. The look of evil really doesn't help some people's/ponies' complexions.
the episode would have made more sense if the bats were actually pests and Fluttershy was wrong. Least it would have given a reason why they went through with trying to get rid of them. Instead of completely ignoring Fluttershy in the first place.
To be fair, they were ruining a large swath of the orchard. While it would benefit in the long run, with increased crop production and more trees, it would still take several years for the trees to grow fully, and without some limiting factor, the bat population would grow exponentially, until it wiped out all the fruit, and subsequently wiped itself out. Fluttershy, while she is an animal expert, she wouldn't exactly be willing to set up any of her animal friends to be killed. Effectively, the bat conservatory would only wipe out the orchard, ruin the apple family economically, and kill off the bat population in sweet apple acres, or at least drive them out of the lands.
I suspect that Cider season for them is right at the end of apple harvesting season. The apples would likely have been scrap apples, rather than eating apples, and might have been slightly mushy, making them easier to press. Hell, I'm pretty sure that what they were producing was alcoholic, considering non-alcoholic doesn't foam. If thats the case, then the apples were starting to ferment on their own right.
